Relaxing on top of Grassau

Grassau offers a lot to alpine lovers! Beautiful trails into this magnificent landscape transform hiking into a real experience. You can enjoy the view of the Watzmann from the summits of the Chiemgau mountains. For example from Hochgern. And you can see Munich from the Kampenwand on a clear day. Not to mention the magnificent view of lake Chiemsee. The Hochplatte has an unobstructed view of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner.

Traditional fare at an alpine hut

Halfway up the mountain rustic alpine huts entice you to linger for a while. A number of them are staffed in the summer months and serve home-made specialities.
Adventurous climbers, leisurely hikers and strollers: We have something for everyone. Numerous tended and signposted hiking paths make the huts and summits accessible. If you don’t want to aim too high, there is enough to explore around Grassau. For example do you know our natural moorland in the Kendlmühlfilze?

Hiking with our guides

If you don’t want to set off on your own, we can offer guided walking tours. The local walking guides don’t only know their way around but are also experts on the history of the Achental valley and the animal and plant life in the area. Join one of our guided tours which take place every Tuesday during summer. We look forward to seeing you!

Our hiking paths are all well signposted. You can collect hiking maps with suggestions for tours from the tourist information office in Grassau.
A number of hiking paths lead past traditional huts, where you can enjoy a delicious typical snack or lunch on your ascent. See the current list of our alpine huts in the area.
